Flexographic printing is unique to roll label manufacturing. The flexographic press obtains it name from the flexible rubber plates that are used in the printing of the graphics. These plates wrap around a cylinder which rolls over ink and lays the graphic onto the label material. The label material moves through the press very quickly, over as many as 8 different plates, resulting in high speed, single color or multi color, label production. The flexographic press is capable of producing labels with up to 8 different spot colors and 4 color process images as well. Materials available include paper, gloss paper, polyesters and vinyls. UV inks and varnish are available for protection from harmful lights. Also, the flexographic press is capable of applying overlaminates to the labels during the printing process, for outdoor environmental protection.
