Graphic Overlay
Key to appearance, functionality, durability, and user friendliness. Choose from various materials based on the characteristics of your data entry keypads.

Shielding
Many forms of shielding laminates are available and are designed to: Safely channel harmful static (ESD) away from sensitive electronics, protect from ambient radio frequency interference (RFI) and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) and reduce or eliminate RFI/EMI emissions by reflection or absorption. Types of shielding available include screenprinted conductive silver and graphic ink, aluminum foil (.0025” or .005”), ITO Sputtered Shielded Window, conductive adhesive tapes, conductive mesh, and ferrites.
Backlighting
To provide lighting from under the graphic overlay, backlighting is a feature that can be integrated into the data entry keypads construction. Phosphorescent, electroluminescent, fiber optic, and backlighting with LED’s are available from Can West Label.
Switches
Switch styles and configurations available from Can West Label include metal dome tactile, polyester dome tactile, non-tactile, and special application switches such as double contact and double action.
Circuits
Circuit layers are created by screenprinting conductive silver based ink onto non-conductive film (typically high performance heat stabilized polyester, although other substrates are available). If desired, an UV-cured layer of dielectric ink can be applied to prevent oxidization and silver migration.
Embedded Components
Quality, reliability and cost competitiveness are assured through the automated equipment used in the accurate placement of components. This process also results in an integrated, smarter solution. Some of the most common components are LED’s (available in red, yellow, green, blue and white), switches and resistors.
Membrane Tails
The membrane tail is a flexible extension of one or more circuit layers within the data entry keypads. Can West Label will propose a specific flexible cable design based on circuit configuration, type of connector, and type of shield. The mechanical design will ensure perfect interconnection with other elements. If sharp bends are required, Can West can offer stress relieved thermoformed bends. Tails can be die cut along intricate shapes (they do not need to be straight).
Connectors
Can West Label is capable of providing the proper tail termination option to ensure that the membrane tail is mechanically compatible with the OEM equipment. Availability includes several styles of crimp connectors including the Berg Clincher series and Nicromatic Crimpflex® male contacts and female contacts, as well as ZIF and LIF tail terminations.
Spacers and adhesives
The correct choice of spacers and adhesives is critical to the performance and reliability of your membrane switch. As with industrial labels and graphic overlays, Can West Label uses 3M adhesives and spacers and will match them to your environmental and surface applications.
Back Plate Supports
Available in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses, common materials available as back plate supports include aluminum alloy, steel (painted or plated), acrylic substrate or polycarbonate substrate.
